Aquamarine is a form of beryl. It is a gem stone quality mineral that is used in lots of jewelry. Literally translated it means ‘water of the sea.’ It is named this because of the unique color seen in aquamarine. The color of aquamarine is a light blue, sometimes with a hint of turquoise, reminiscent of the tint of sea water.
There are also, yellow beryl, rose pink beryl and white beryl varieties, but aquamarine is favored by many jewelers. Aquamarine earrings are an amazing part of any jewelry collection.
There is a beautiful variety of quartz called citrine that jewelers love to put in their items. Citrine has an amazing pale yellow color that just pops when it is worn. This amazing gem is rarely formed naturally without human assistance. Most of the stuff that they sell in stores is actually heated amethyst or a smoky variety of quartz.
The leading producer of citrine is actually Brazil with much of its production coming from the Rio Grande do Sul. Citrine can be incorporated into wonderful citrine necklaces.
